A Wide Range of Legal Services for an Aging Population
The term "elder law" is not an area of legal practice in the traditional sense, but rather encompasses a wide spectrum of services based on the age of the client. Elder law includes estate planning, long-term care planning, including Medi-Cal* qualification and planning, and conservatorship.
As our population ages, issues of elder law occur with greater frequency. The Law Offices of Philip W. Cox has the expertise and compassion to help navigate the often turbulent waters faced by our older clients. Elder law attorneys provide advice and advocate on behalf of elders, their families, and caregivers.
According to the 2010 census, California has the largest population over age 65 of any state.
Elder law attorneys offer practical advice concerning questions we all face as we age. Our elder law practice includes issues regarding appointment of appropriate surrogates/fiduciaries to make financial and healthcare decisions in the event of incapacity, public benefits eligibility and planning, community based services, in-home care, long-term care insurance, and reverse mortgages, among other issues.
We regularly work with related professionals, such as geriatric care managers, long-term care specialists, professional fiduciaries, and lenders, and in appropriate cases will happily give referrals to help meet the needs of our elder clients. Our Southern California clients can count on us to manage the legal framework to achieve a win. When our lawyers are involved in a case, we help our clients successfully resolve matters as quickly and efficiently as possible.
*Medi-Cal is California’s version of a federal program known in most other states as Medicaid. Medi-Cal should not be confused with Medicare, the federal program that provides health insurance from most Americans over 65.
